[With “Scouts Guide To The Zombie Apocalypse” horror-comedy movie now available on Digital HD/On Demand, director Chris Landon talks to SOHH about the surge of streaming outlets like Netflix.]
I think it’s a great time for entertainment. There’s so much original content out there that I think for any filmmaker, it’s exciting and I definitely want to explore it.
But I’m also a huge, huge film fan. I hope and do believe that there’s still a place for film and not just blockbusters. I think it’s a little discouraging that right now it seems like a lot of studios are really fixated on making spectacle movies.
I realize it’s a business and they have to try to sell these things overseas and that’s a big part of the business now but I also think there’s still a place for these smaller movies that are in that 10 to 30 million dollar range.
You used to see a lot more of them and I think what ultimately draws a lot of people to a film is the story. Are you telling a compelling story? Is it funny? Is it scary? Is it moving?
I’m hoping that we’re going to see a little more range in the future. I really do believe there is an appetite for it still.
