G.O.O.D. Music boss Kanye West has officially reached a new career milestone by landing more Top 40 hits than late pop icon Michael Jackson.

According to reports, Yeezy’s recent guest spot on ScHoolboy Q‘s “THat Part” moved him beyond Jackson’s previous Top 40 benchmark.

With his feature on ScHoolboy Q’s That Part, West scored his 40th top 40 song, passing Michael Jackson at 39, Billboard reported Monday. West now has the tenth most top 40 hits by a male artist, trailing his contemporaries Chris Brown (42), Jay Z (45), Drake (53) and Lil Wayne (69). And to become the male artist with the most top 40 hits, he’ll have to defeat Elvis Presley’s whopping 80 songs. (USA Today)

Last month, Kanye went on a mini-Twitter tirade and suggested Apple Music should work with TIDAL head Jay Z.

In June, reports developed about Apple possibly looking into buying Jay’s TIDAL service.

Apple is exploring the idea of bringing on Tidal to bolster its Apple Music service because of Tidal’s strong ties to popular artists such as Kanye West and Madonna. The talks are ongoing and may not result in a deal, these people said. Terms of the potential deal aren’t known. (Wall Street Journal)

Some reports suggested Jay Z’s name attached to TIDAL could be a huge factor in the potential deal going down.

Tidal has about 4 million paying subscribers, according to the WSJ. (For context, Apple Music has 15 million.) Those can’t automatically be moved over to Apple Music, but Apple should be able to persuade many of them to come over. It has whatever Jay-Z brings to the table for consumer marketing and artist relationships. (Recode)
