Hip-Hop pioneer Scarface recently spoke on the status of hip-hop and why teenage rapper Soulja Boy Tell Em could one day join the ranks of Def Jam co-founder Russell Simmons.

In addition to Soulja Boy, Face also paid homage to Dr. Dre‘s contributions to hip-hop.

“I think the Internet is what’s wrong with rap right now,” he explained. “Because it’s no way to filter garbage. You say some dumb-a** sh*t, and you get a million hits on your Web site…And Soulja Boy is not included…He getting money and he’s my son’s age. I like the way he do it. I think he got the potential to be the next Russell [Simmons]. I?m giving him some big-a** shoes to stand beside but if that kid really focus on finding talent and marketing that sh*t like he is now at f*cking 18, 19-years-old, I ain’t mad at it…Dre [is the best producer] in the f*cking world. Like, I was listening to a track in this movie War and it was just an instrumental. The f*cking track was man who can f*ck with it? I mean the man releases a record every eight or nine years. This is how you rate the producers: staying power. Everything that he’s ever touched was some big sh*t.” (Vibe)

Soulja Boy recently described his aim to make a “classic” hip-hop album.

“Right now I’m in the studio making The DeAndre Way,” Soulja Boy explained in an interview. “And mark my words, this album will be a classic. A lot of people been sleeping on Soulja Boy for a long time, when I first came out with ‘Crank Dat’ it was so big, gimmicky and catchy it went five times platinum and a lot of people were stuck on it for a long time. They said I was garbage, they said I was a one-hit wonder. Now I came out with ‘Kiss Me Through The Phone,’ my second No. 1 single and I released ‘Turn My Swag On,’ my third No. 1 single and now I’m going into my third album. I got everybody’s ears open right now…Mark my words, this album will go platinum…I’m reaching out to hip-hop’s greatest…I wanna reach out to that top status. Your Jay-Z‘s, your Kanye‘s and your Lil Wayne‘s.” (MTV)

He will reportedly hit the studio with Yeezy for his third solo project.

“I know a million producers that are no-names, but they got hot beats,” he said in an interview. “I will be going back in the lab to produce beats on this album, I really haven’t produced since my second album, but I’m looking forward to doing a 50/50 split beat with Kanye West. I think that’ll be hot because he’s a great lyricist, but an awesome producer as well. I feel like I’m an awesome producer too, and both of us in the studio together at the same time can come out with a smash.” (Radio Planet TV)

Scarface announced his rap retirement last year.

“Scarface is dead, yeah, he’s dead,” Face said in an interview. “The artist formely known as Face is going to produce some sh*t on Slim’s album but it won’t be Face no more, Face is dead. I wanted to broaden my horizon in music, I grew up in a band, I play everything. As influential as I am in the music industry, it would be wrong to stay in the music and not bring it back.” (World Star Hip Hop)
