[SOHH highlights a hot record every week and offers a behind-the-scenes look at the smash in Singled Out. After Jay Sean dished on his Sean Paul-assisted “Make My Love Go” single, Colorado rapper Saint Joe decodes his Chris Rivers and Chino XL-assisted “Homicide Fetish” music video.]

I ended up finding the “Homicide Fetish” beat from a producer in Norway. I don’t normally like trap beats but I loved it. So I grabbed that and I always wanted to do a track with Chris Rivers.

For every single track on my new “Thinning Out The Heard” album, I wrote to it, chose the beats and sent it to the person I wanted on there with me. I always keep my lyrics on there and do not change them so I don’t mind if I get killed on my own sh*t.

There are no provisions. Once it’s written, it’s written. I sent my verse to Chris Rivers and felt like I did a good job. I was trying to figure out who to put on the track and thought I should put Chino XL on there.

So I called him and was like, “I want to put you on this song with Chris Rivers.” I sent him this track and realized it would be the first time Chino XL and Big Pun’s son were on the same song. That’s hip-hop history.

He said of course and always talked about royalty every time I brought up Chris Rivers’ name. I sent him everything he needed and he sent it back.

But it took seven months for Chino to get it back. I was going to cancel but then he sent me the reference and it was so amazing that I was like, “It was worth the wait.” Chino hit me back and was like, “The hook is tight but I can redo it for you because I love the track.”

He sent me back the hook and it was amazing. After that, he told me he wanted to buy the track and I said, “That’s amazing but I’m going to keep this one.”

I got everybody on that and talked to Chris Rivers. Everything was good. He was about to go on tour and then I talked to Chino about shooting the video.

I went to California and then some sh*t happened with him and I ended up chilling with him in Los Angeles. Then I flew back and he came out here to Denver to do a show and when he got in my car, the first thing he asked me to do was to take him to the gym.

The dude is brolic. He finishes his workout, we’re cracking jokes, end up going to the show that night and hung out with a lot of guys. He picked the place for the video and we shot it at this abandoned church. There had been a flood there a couple years ago and it almost wiped everything out.

We shot the video there and I think it came out amazing.
