Brooklyn rapper Saigon recently opened up on co-signing rap newcomer Don Trip's "Letter to My Son" anthem and revealed, just like the song's story, he is going through the same bout with a woman.

While refraining from direct name drops, Sai said he is also fighting to see his child.

“My greatest lesson I learned this year was you should be married before you have a child with a person. Even though marriage doesn’t guarantee you’ll be together, it makes it easier in court when the mother is giving you the Don Trip [“Letter To My Son” ] treatment. What helped me learn that lesson is I am going through the same exact thing that he explains in that song. That’s my favorite song right now. We as men get a lot of flack when were run from our responsibilities as fathers but nobody comes down on women when they don’t allow the father to be in their life.” (Hip Hop DX)

Don Trip has become widely known for his reflective “Letter to My Son” single.

The song is “Letter to My Son” and it is artful in its artlessness. The rhymes — unlike in Trip’s other best music — are not creative. They are mundane: a lot of “to/through/you/do/too.” But Trip — real name, improbably, Chris Wallace, which he shares not only with the Memphis Grizzlies general manager but with late rap legend Notorious B.I.G. — is speaking plainly here, from the wrong side of a contentious child-visitation battle. Addressing his son, Jaylen, then two-and-a-half-months old, Trip apologizes for his absence (“I don’t get to see you like I want to/I just want to let you know I want to”), lashes out at the mother (“To get back at me she knows she gotta use you … she don’t understand that this sh*t will bruise you too”), references potential court hearings, details steps taken to straighten up his own life and rectify the situation and finally howls: “I just want to see my child.” (Memphis Flyer)

Recently, Trip talked to SOHH about keeping up with the fast pace of fame.

“Everything’s moving a bit more faster now, it’s a bigger scale and I’m dealing with more people, so everything’s really beeing moving fast,” Trip told SOHH. “I’m trying to take my time and really doing everything I can do and not just what I’m supposed to do. I don’t think I spend 24 hours in the same space too much [anymore]. I just left Tampa for Tallahassee and then [went from] Tallahassee to Atlanta back to Memphis and Memphis. I’ve got to keep it moving because nothing’s promised for tomorrow. I need to get it while I can.” (SOHH)

Last year, Sai told SOHH his biggest regret of 2010 was not spending ample time with his daughter.

“When I think about my biggest regret over the past year, it would have to include my time away from my daughter. My biggest regret of 2010 was not spending enough time with my daughter. I definitely didn’t spend enough time with my daughter. The problem is she lives in California and I live in New York. A lot of times, it’s easy to make up excuses [for why] I don’t see her as much as I should. I really should though. Even if I have to get on an airplane for six hours a week, then that’s what I need to do. I really need to see her more. It’s important now because she just turned two, and I would like to make up [for my absence].” (SOHH Guest Star)
