Wu-Tang Clan's RZA recently said he imagined placing his crew's Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) on New York City's famous Broadway stage.
The RZA believes he could manifest his dream within a five-year time span.
“I thought about doing ’36 Chambers.’ I dreamed I can do it on Broadway cause I make my albums like movies. People been talking to me about a lot of things. I got people reaching out to me about Carnegie Hall. I make movies now, so I get more access. It’s still in the dream world, but a lot of my dreams have come true and I’m working on this one, baby. I think in five years it could be done, actually. I was thinking about doing ’36 Chambers’ because I can combine art and film. With that album I know how to do it,” he says. “That album is like a movie for me, it’s a map also. It means a lot for the music, but it means so much more.” (The Boom Box)
Grand Hustle rapper B.o.B. recently said he wanted to perform his debut album on a Broadway stage.
“I want to do Broadway,” he said in an interview. “Like I definitely want to do a show [on] Broadway but call it like ‘The Adventures of Bobby Ray’ … do every song from the album but Broadway style, like we act a scene and it goes into a song. I feel like some artists, they become so much like personalities. Like Steve Harvey is kind of like–like young kids who were born in like ’94 or ’93 who don’t know Steve Harvey, [as the] comedian on ‘The Steve Harvey Show,’ [to them] he’s just a person, like a personality. I feel like at some point that’s what will happen with my career.” (XXL Mag)
Recently, the Wu’s Raekwon said he was looking forward to performing 36 Chambers at this year’s Rock the Bells concert series.
“We never did that before,” Raekwon said in an interview. “We never sung the whole album, the 36 Chambers…That’s gonna be interesting to see these cats do some of the records that really bust hip-hop’s cherry open. I can’t wait to see this because I never seen it like that before. The concept is great. It gives fans the opportunity to go back and rewrite their history, go back and check it out, see what made dudes who they are. … This [tour] is gonna allow races to come together and have fun for one night. This is gonna be the event of events. This is gonna be the Royal Rumble of hip-hop. I’m sure that everybody is gonna come out and represent this. It’s gonna be right. I can’t wait.” (MTV)
Additional select artists will be performing their most renowned albums this year.
– Don’t believe the hype. Yesterday, URB.com reported that R&B recluse Lauryn Hill would headline this summer’s Rock the Bells tour, performing her 1999 masterpiece “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill” in its entirety. Scratch that. Today, the magazine blames “leaked information,” but does claim that other artists will be performing their classic albums on this summer’s hip-hop mega-tour. According to URB, Slick Rick will perform “the Great Adventures of Slick Rick,” Krs-One will revisit “Criminal Minded,” Rakim will perform “Paid In Full,” and the Wu-Tang Clan will perform “Enter the 36 Chambers.” That’s cool, but it’s no L Boogie.
