Detroit rapper Royce Da 5’9‘s new Layers album has knocked singer Rihanna’s recently released ANTI studio project down from the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop chart.
According to reports, Royce’s latest offering now sits atop the chart.
It’s been a long time coming, but Royca da 5’9″ just landed his first #1 album on Billboard’s R&B/Hip-Hop chart and simultaneously dethroned Rihanna’s recent release ANTI from the top spot. This also comes as Royce’s first #1 solo album. He previously was at the top with Eminem when they released Hell: The Sequel back in 2011. (Metro Times)
Royce has already reacted to the album’s early success.
“It feels great, like hard work is paying off.” Royce said from a tour stop in Vancouver. “You get out of it what you put into it and I gave it my all and focused on just music.” (Forbes)
Back in 2011, Royce revealed the motivation behind his catchy “Hi Rihanna” line from his BET Hip-Hop Awards rap cypher freestyle.
“She came up and told me she liked one of my songs, so I just felt like, you tell me that again, we go together. It has to happen. I express myself through my music, I just thought it was a line I was going to say, I didn’t know if she was going to hear it.” (Pop Dust)
