Chicago rapper Rockie Fresh is finally done making fans wait it out. The hip-hop entertainer has come through this week with the visual treatment to his “Must Be” single.
On Wednesday, Rockie released the steamy clip. Instead of putting out the official music video, Fresh’s new clip is a lyric visual.
Wielding lilting melodies and an effortless laid-back charm, Rockie Fresh is one of rap’s most reliably chill figures. Opening up with a romantic, R&B-tinged ballad, Rockie Fresh shares the lyric video for “Must Be.” Produced by Sean Momberger (Joyner Lucas, Chris Brown, Trey Songz) and featuring a characteristically smooth hook from Chris Brown, “Must Be” is a vulnerable plea to stop playing games and an appeal to return to the loving feelings of the early stages of a relationship. The new lyric video depicts a love triangle, between Rockie and two beautiful women, as the song’s lyrics illustrate their pained and dramatic thought processes.
The record comes from Rockie’s 2019 Destination album release. The project dropped shortly after RF left Maybach Music Group and signed with Rostrum Records.
Last year’s album hosted video singles like “Round Here” and “Maria,” and benefitted from the laid-back charm Rockie lends to each release. Earlier this year, Rockie shared the playful clip for album highlight “Feelings Hurt,” which features appearances from Rockie’s frequent collaborator Casey Veggies and his Rostrum labelmate 24hrs, and dropped his new single “Let It Be,” which earned a spot on Spotify’s Most Necessary playlist.
Wait, There’s More
Last year, the Chi-Town rap artist blessed fans with his “Maria’ anthem. The record delivers nostalgia vibes and is another Destination album standout.
Reminiscent of much of hip-hop’s sound from the early 2000s, the bass-heavy track employs a hefty amount of bounce. Rockie croons over the instrumental as he expresses his love for a girl named Maria, lacing auto-tuned vocals against hefty verses that employ the rapper’s traditional sound. The track is much more commercially in-line than what Rockie has previously put out, a sign that he’s brought out the big guns for his debut album. (HYPEBEAST)
Before You Go
Packed with bangers, Rockie also teamed up with fellow musician Arin Ray. The duo trade vocals on their “Always Love” anthem.
