Roc Nation’s Vic Mensa isn’t here for teachers staying strapped up in the classroom. The hip-hop artist has reacted to growing buzz about President Donald Trump wanting to see professors having concealed guns on them in light of the recent Florida school shooting.
According to Vic, there is absolutely nothing positive from having teachers strapped up.
“Giving guns to teachers, it’s absolutely asinine. It’s so backwards. Anybody saying that has clearly never been to a public school. And it’s all just a diversion from big money lobbyists with the NRA. It’s not a real logical solution. It’s not even an idea. It’s just a distraction, so that people can keep making money off of these kids getting killed. It’s the people they’re voting for that are making money off of them getting killed. It’s a shame. Point blank you gotta ban AR-15s. You don’t need an AR-15 to kill a deer – America is built off of blood and greed. And that’s the way it’s always been. A few days ago, President Trump shared his support for the idea of teachers strapping up in the classroom.
Teachers carrying a concealed gun could end attacks “very quickly”, he said. Mr Trump floated the proposal – long-championed by the powerful NRA gun lobby – as emotional survivors of the 14 February massacre urged him to take measures to stop similar attacks. The US leader called for improved background checks on gun buyers. “It’s not going to be talk like it’s been in the past,” he said. (BBC)
The president went a step further last Thursday (February 22) by suggesting a monetary benefit for teachers getting gun training.
“These people are cowards. They’re not going to walk into a school if 20% of the teachers have guns — it may be 10% or may be 40%. And what I’d recommend doing is the people that do carry, we give them a bonus. We give them a little bit of a bonus,” Trump said. “They’ll frankly feel more comfortable having the gun anyway. But you give them a little bit of a bonus.” (CNN)
