R&B singer Robin Thicke recently talked about heating up the Video Music Awards a few weeks back with a memorable performance alongside 20-year-old twerk star Miley Cyrus.

Despite the intense bumping and grinding, Thicke has fallen back on claiming responsibility for the full-fledged incident.

While Miley Cyrus has been busy twerking up a storm and leaving fans atwitter with her oft-pantsless antics, Robin Thicke is trying to distance himself from the dance form that the “We Can’t Stop” singer loves so much. “People ask me if I twerk, and I’m like, Listen, I’m the twerkee. I don’t twerk,” the “Blurred Lines” singer told Oprah Winfrey in a recent interview. “I’m just twerked upon.” On Sunday, Aug. 25, the musical pair made history after they performed a mash-up of their two summer jams at the MTV VMAs that took an obscene turn when Cyrus, 20, began to grind up on the married singer’s “cajones,” as Winfrey put it. “This is funny to me, it’s silly,” Thicke, 36, said of the backlash that followed their performance. Despite the backlash she has received since the televised twerk attack, Miley recently stood behind her live set.

Miley isn’t about to back down. She did what she came to do, nailed it, and feels great about it. “What’s amazing is I think now, we’re three days later and people are still talking about it. They’re over thinking it,” she says. “You’re thinking about it more than I thought about it when I did it. Like, I didn’t even think about it ’cause that’s just me.” (MTV)

The 20-year-old even likened herself to past VMAs standouts like Madonna and Britney Spears.

And, to that point, Cyrus isn’t going to let her detractors hold her back. She’s doing things her way, defining her career on her own terms. After all, though she may be just 20 years old, she certainly knows a thing or two about pop history. “I don’t pay attention to the negative because I’ve seen this play out so many times,” Miley asks, “How many times have we seen this play out in pop music?” “Madonna’s done it. Britney’s done it. Every VMA performance, that’s what you’re looking for; you’re wanting to make history.” (MTV)

Earlier this year, the former Disney Channel star spoke on having a difficult life.

But while her latest bizarre attempt to disassociate herself from wholesome Hannah Montana remains fresh in the memory, the young singer and actress freely admits she ‘has issues.’ In an interview conducted earlier this year, Miley told the Sunday People: ‘I have so many f***ing issues. I am so f***ed up – everyone does dumb stuff when they are messed up. I don’t have a normal life. I take a hiatus every now and again but I’m not good at that.’ The 20-year-old singer and actress became a household name thanks to the global success of Hannah Montana, and she says the rigorous touring and TV appearances that came with promoting it gave her a strong work ethic. She said: ‘All I do is work, so I eat to live and to keep going. People are impressed with me because I can sleep for just 45 minutes – I’m used to it. (Daily Mail)
