Grammy-winning singer Rihanna and Colin Kaepernick should feel pretty good after helping contribute to the NFL suffering its worst Super Bowl ratings in a decade. The championship game also brought in a historically low amount of viewers.

According to reports, the game brought in 100.7 million viewers despite having two popular teams in the championship match.

A boycott by disgruntled New Orleans Saints fans, a campaign by fans of quarterback Colin Kaepernick and a game with only one touchdown combined to shrink the audience. On CBS alone, the game was seen by 98.2 million people, compared to 103.4 million who watched on NBC last year, according to the Nielsen company. (USA Today)

Along with viewers, the game had an extremely low overnight ratings score.

The Washington Post reports that the NFL’s big game scored a 44.9 rating, making it the lowest-watched super Bowl since 2009, when the Pittsburgh Steelers faced the Arizona Cardinals. The drop in viewership also marks a 5.2 percent decline since last year. (The Root)

This week, Black Lives Matter activist Colin Kaepernick saluted RiRi for supporting him and not watching the Super Bowl.

Back in October, comedian Amy Schumer applauded Rihanna for allegedly rejecting a Super Bowl halftime performance offer.

The same week, reports emerged about RiRi backing out of performing at Super Bowl LIII in support of Kaepernick.

“The NFL and CBS really wanted Rihanna to be next year’s performer in Atlanta,” the insider reveals. “They offered it to her, but she said no because of the kneeling controversy. She doesn’t agree with the NFL’s stance.” Kaepernick, who once admitted to having a crush on Rihanna, was the first NFL player to kneel during the national anthem in protest of police brutality and racial inequality.
