The Greatest Rapper Of All Time

The Notorious B. I.G. known as “Biggie” or “Big Papa,” was shot and killed on March 9, 1997, in Los Angeles. His sudden death sent shockwaves through the rap community.

On the 26th anniversary of his death, he continues to be honored around hip-hop. Bad Boy Records founder Diddy, who signed the “Hypnotize” rapper recently posted a  tribute video honoring the late rapper.

In addition, other social media tributes were by New York rap legends DJ Clark Kent and Fat Joe.

Long Live Biggie Smalls

Biggie was one of the most popular 90s rappers and was part of a resurgence in East Coast rap. Some recent tributes include the cover of a Deadpool comic book and Air Jordan’s limited edition Biggie sneakers.

Since Biggie’s death, rappers have publicly referenced him as an influence in their careers such as Jay-Z, Lil Wayne, Jadakiss, Kendrick Lamar, Drake, and others.

The “Sky’s The Limit” rapper’s music is also still being sampled by artists such as Jay-Z, Nicki Minaj, 50 Cent, The Game, and more.

Last December, Biggie’s home borough of Brooklyn posthumously honored him with a statue located near the steps to the Brooklyn Bridge. It is a nine-foot sculpture of him wearing a crown. 

According to News 12, the late rapper’s latest honor includes a mosaic in his neighborhood– Brooklyn’s Bedford-Stuyvesant or “Bed-Stuy.”
