[With his long-awaited “Mud Face” album underway, rap veteran Redman talks to SOHH about his Def Jam days and now being independent.]

Dudes like me and Method Man, we were spoiled. Def Jam spoiled us. They did everything for us because we brought them in money.

So, for us to really take heed to the stuff we learned and put it into play for our own life, it’s serious.

There’s no more of us not watching the budget of what we spend on car services. When you’re up in the label, you’re just riding the car services. You don’t care if it’s coming out of your budget. You’re just riding it.

Now? There’s a difference.

When you’re independent, you watch each detail. That’s the only thing it came from, me just learning and I’m still learning a lot.
