[With an impressive 9-0 start to his boxing career, former Atlanta Falcons star Ray Edwards talks to SOHH about what’s helped him take down the competition.]

I’m a skilled fighter. I spend [plenty of] time not only in the gym but also studying great fighters like Muhammad Ali and Sugar Ray Robinson, Sugar Ray Leonard, Roy Jones Jr., Floyd Mayweather, I’ve studied everyone.

There’s no one main style to define me. You can’t just have one talent. You gotta be able to adapt to each fighter. There’s going to be some things you work on that you won’t for the next fight.

You gotta be able to adapt to whatever fight you’re in.

The goal that I’m going to accomplish is being the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world. Everyone is boasting about these global fighters. Don’t get me wrong, they’re great fighters but until they came to the United States and got American trainers, they weren’t elite fighters.

Lennox Lewis got knocked out by Oliver McCall. He came over here and got Emanuel Steward and became an elite fighter. Don’t get me wrong, he was already the world champion but he got beat by Oliver McCall and said, “I need to make a transition.”

I just want to bring the glory back to this side of the pond. Being the undisputed champion of the world, which I’m going to be, I want to show people this is where it belongs and where it’s going to stay.

We’re looking for a great American champion and that’s going to be me.
