Along with putting himself up with sneaker giants like Jordan Brand, Chainz briefly spoke on the inspiration behind the all-black shoes.

“I’m getting my Jordan on but not Jordans, you know,” Chainz said with a smile when asked about his new adidas sneaker deal. “I’m getting my NBA on. [The shoe’s inspiration?] It looks like me. Look at the shoe. Bruh, look at the shoe. It looks like me. It’s black. It has crocs and snakeskin.” (Complex)

Buzz behind Chainz landing his own signature sneaker bubbled online earlier this month.

2 Chainz is currently headlining his first national tour, the 2 Good to be T.R.U. Tour. To celebrate the tour, 2 Chainz and adidas Originals collaborated to create a commemorative Top Ten Hi . The Top Ten Hi features, gold lace-tips and eyestay, molded snakeskin 3 stripes, croc-embossed, brushed nubuck upper and midsole, and leather lined collar and footbed. The show will drop on Feb. 15. The Top Ten Hi “2 Good to be T.R.U.” will be available at adidas Originals retail stores nationwide as well as at adidas.com for $130. (XXL Mag)

Despite massive success with his Yeezy Nike sneakers, Chainz’s close pal Kanye West recently promised his adidas debut would still meet high expectations.

“Yeah, 100 percent, it’s going to be dope, everything is going to be dope,” Kanye said when asked if his Adidas debut sneakers will have as much appeal as his limited edition Nike Yeezy collection. “It’s just like having a record deal, simple as that. What if I would have been stopped at The College Dropout and I never got the chance to make ‘Gold Digger’ and I never got the chance to make ‘Can’t Tell Me Nothin’ and I never got the chance to get to ‘N*ggas In Paris’ – with Nike, they were trying to confine the idea. They always send celebrity marketing to me and I’m like, ‘I’m a designer, I’m a creator, why don’t you just let me create? I got some ideas right here and you saw with these two Yeezys right here how much they worked.’ At a certain point, they brought a contact – I looked at the Adidas contact and I looked at the Nike contract and I looked at my daughter’s eyes and I made the decision I needed to make to be able to make product.” (“The Morning Riot”)

In December, Chainz argued rappers could compete with their own sneaker lines against star athletes’ signature collections.

“Yeah, yeah, let me tell you something. Rap is all year round, we’re not seasonal,” Chainz said when asked if hip-hop artists could sell more sneakers than professional athletes. “See, what’s going on is you got football season. And you got basketball season. And you got baseball season. There ain’t no hip-hop season. So we’re able to wear these shoes all year round. We are the rock stars. I do have an effect on pop culture, so at the end of the day, I think we can sell as many shoes as the next man can.” (Sports Nation)
