Asked about the importance of putting up strong opening week numbers, Deuce said there are two ways to look at sales.

“Of course I care. I’m still gon’ grind it out. If it does 50k, I’ll probably be mad as hell and do something like buy another car, make myself feel better. But at the same time, I know it’s a race and if anybody know me, it’s hard to really get me down, get me discouraged. I’m very optimistic.” (“The Breakfast Club”)

He also briefly touched on the perception of not having enough promotion for his sophomore effort.

“You don’t want to get into becoming angry rapper mode, pointing fingers at different people. I’m still confident in word of mouth as far as marketing and advertising. … I’m kinda like on some laidback, humble stuff right now ’cause I really think I outdid myself on this album.” (“The Breakfast Club”)

Based on weekend estimates, Chainz is going to likely need a 40,000 album sales boost to compete for a chart-topping debut.

YOUR TOP 15: While it remains pretty close in the race for #1, we’re still giving the edge to Capitol Nashville’s Keith Urban. A #1 debut for Urban will give Mike Dungan’s Universal Nashville its fifth chart topper this year (following Gary Allan’s Set You Free, Luke Bryan’s Spring Break… Here To Party and Crash My Party and Lady Antebellum’s Golden) and two in this week’s Top 5. Half of this week’s Top 15 are debuts. Here’s how it looks headed into the weekend: *Keith Urban (Capitol Nashville) 100-105k *The Weeknd (XO/Republic) 90-95k *2 Chainz (Def Jam/IDJ) 55-60k (HITS Daily Double)

Initial one-day estimates, had Deuce’s sophomore release expected to sell up to 65,000 units.

YOUR NEW RELEASES: After one day of sales, it looks like we might have another close race this week for #1. We’re giving the edge to Keith Urban for the moment, but keep checking back here for updates. Here are this week’s key debuts: Keith Urban (Capitol Nashville) 100-110k The Weeknd (XO/Republic) 90-100k 2 Chainz (Def Jam/IDJ) 55-65k Janelle Monae (Bad Boy/Atlantic) 45-50k (HITS Daily Double)

A few days ago, the ATL rapper admitted he was upset at Def Jam for under shipping his new LP.

While chatting with Angie Martinez during Hot 97?s In-Studio series, 2 Chainz revealed that their may be trouble in paradise. Upset at the low number of albums shipped out by his label, the rapper told that he’s afraid fans will not be able to find his album. “I’m already pissed”, said Chainz when asked by Angie if he’s anticipating bad sales. Although the rapper did not reveal exactly how many were shipped, he tells that him and Def Jam got mixed up when it came to the amount that would be made available to the public. (XXL Mag)
