According to reports, the decision came Friday following days of publicized coverage.

R. Kelly was denied bail on racketeering and sexual abuse charges that allege he recruited young girls for sexual abuse at concerts across the country during an arraignment hearing in Brooklyn Federal Court on Friday morning. The singer, wearing blue prison togs over an orange shirt, pleaded not guilty to the charges through his attorneys. While he looked ahead through most of the hearing, he smiled and nodded briefly at girlfriends Joycelyn Savage and Azriel Clary, who were seated with two other family members. (Variety)

Earlier in the week, the Chicago native’s attorney filed a request to have him set free on bond.

Attorney Steve Greenberg filed a 12-page motion Thursday asking U.S. District Court Judge Harry Leinenweber to reconsider his decision to hold Kelly without bond pending his trial on numerous new federal chargesaccusing the 52-year-old of child pornography, enticement of a minor and obstruction of justice. “In this case, given Defendant’s lack of resources, willingness to submit to electronic monitoring, and lack of contact with minors, history of appearance, substantial monetary bond posted in State Court, and demonstrated ability to comply with bail restrictions, conditions could easily be fashioned,” Greenberg wrote in his motion. Kelly’s New York allegations are connected to multiple women including an unnamed fan and former radio station intern.

Kelly, 52, is charged in New York with exploiting five victims, identified only as “Jane Does.” According to court papers, they include one he met at one of his concerts and another at a radio station where she was an intern. (ABC News)

Last month, Robert also had a bond request denied days after getting arrested on federal charges.

A federal judge on Tuesday ordered the R&B artist R. Kelly to jail without bond, delivering a blow to the performer as he faces mounting legal trouble related to accusations of sexual misconduct with minors.  The singer faces charges stemming from two federal criminal cases, brought in New York and Chicago. He was arrested on Thursday in Chicago, and has been held at the Metropolitan Correctional Center since then. On Tuesday, Kelly pleaded not guilty to the Chicago charges, which include enticing a minor and obstructing justice. (CNBC News)
