Mobb Deep's Prodigy recently spoke on linking back up with one-time estranged rapper Nas and why he cannot envision God's Son needing help writing his own rhymes.
Capital P said despite the speculation and gossip blogs, he and Nasty Nas never clashed.
“Definitely. I never really had an issue with Nas. I never really had any ill feelings towards him, no negativity, nothing like that. I looked up to Nas. I wrote a book, before I got locked up actually, and I finished it while I was locked up and it came out right when I came home and in the book I explained how much I used to look up to Nas and still do and how he inspired my life, my music. Hearing Nas and being around him, seeing his success, it pushed me to be great. I wanted to be great. … He was one of the major ones because I was right there with him. I was right there in the neighborhood. I was right there when his Illmatic album went Gold. We was there celebrating with him at parties, performing with him and all kinds of stuff.” (Complex)
Prodigy also delved into last summer’s rumors of Nas needing another artist’s hand to pen music.
“First off, with Nas, for anybody to say that they ghostwrote something for Nas, you’re a motherf*ckin’ fool. I don’t even know about that whole ghostwriting situation with Nas and whoever. I heard about it but I don’t know the details but all I can say is for anybody to make that accusation, something is mentally wrong with them. As far as ghostwriting goes, it’s nothing wrong with that. That’s a good way to make money. Like, for me to sell my rap to somebody and we make an agreement, like we can’t disclose the information, we got to sign some agreement where we can’t talk about it and that’s cool, why not? People do it all the time. I ghostwrote a couple of songs that don’t nobody know about and I only did two of them, but I did it.” (Complex)
Last summer, Roc Nation’s Jay Electronica blasted the ghostwriting rumors.
“Nas is one of the gods, one of the greatest of all time, one of the godfathers of even my own style,” he said. “I met him on a humble submission and he is one of the greatest ever — he never has or never will need a ghostwriter. He’s legendary, his pen game is unquestionable; salute to Nas. “And all of the other bullsh–, is just bullsh–,” he added, addressing the stories that have been told over the past few weeks. (MTV)
Rap veteran Busta Rhymes shared a similar sentiment back in September.
“Nas never needed a ghostwriter in his life–and I don’t have to ask nobody to confirm that. I know what I saw with my own two! I’m not taking away from nobody and what they do. I’m not even knocking ghostwriters. To each his own. Get your money how you live. Whatever way you got to live, get it the way you got to get it. I don’t knock nobody’s hustle, but Nas needing a ghostwriter, using a ghostwriter, or having a ghostwriter–for me to believe that, a n*gga would d*mn near have to swallow gunpowder, swallow a match, blow himself up and float around on some Daffy Duck sh*t [Laughs].” (VIBE)
