Mobb Deep‘s Prodigy recently talked about late hip-hop icon Tupac Shakur‘s legacy and how it took a past feud for him to start digging his music.

According to Capital P, his admiration for Pac grew after the late rap god went at Mobb Deep on songs like “Hail Mary” and “Hit ‘Em Up.”

“I wasn’t a big Tupac fan, I liked his songs like ‘Dear Mama,’ ‘Keep Ya Head Up’ and all of those,” he said. “All of that was before the drama and all that but I wasn’t a big, big Tupac fan until he started the songs going at us. I was like ‘That’s hard, son.’ On that ‘Hail Mary’ track I was like ‘He coming hard now,’ that’s when I became a real Tupac fan.” (Radio)

Last summer, Prodigy and one-time rap foe Tru Life ended their feud.

Back in 2012, rapper Saigon blamed his issues with Prodigy stemming from the Tru Life beef.

“The sh*t started with Tru Life. That sh*t wasn’t even my beef. Tru had robbed them n*ggas, and me and Tru like brothers, before rap. I came up with Tru. So when Tru got in the rap game, he was on some hood rule apply sh*t — Prodigy stole $15,000 from Tru Life. Not stole it, but he did a verse for him and went and did the same verse and took the money, and then went and did the same verse on some other sh*t. Tru was like, ‘Aight, give me another verse.’ Son kept ducking. They did what they did with that. I ended up guilty by association. They trying to say, you went on TV and burned our CDs. I didn’t burn CDs, I had a handful of CDs, I was like, all this sh*t is garbage to me. I wasn’t singling out Mobb Deep.” (This Is 50)

In 2011, Sai questioned P’s motivation to take shots at him with his My Infamous Life autobiography.

“While Prodigy was locked up, they was trying to bait me into talking reckless about him. Every time somebody interviewed me, I had nothing but good things to say,” Saigon said. “Then he comes out, not only in the book, but in an interview recently up at This Is 50, he’s talkin’ reckless again. … That’s why I don’t understand. He’s texting me sayin’, ‘I’m tellin’ Alchemist we should do a song and just to squash the beef.’ And then he goes, does an interview and starts dissin’ me again. So I’m like, ‘I understand you got a book to sell; I got an album to sell, The Greatest Story Never Told, but I’m not trying to use you to sell my album, man.’” (MTV)
