The Neptunes' Pharrell Williams recently discussed his past decision to have a portion of his tattoos removed and admitted his rebellious youth fueled getting a majority of them on his body.
Pharrell also revealed he is still in the process of having more ink removed.
“No, I was just young and dumb,” Pharrell said when asked if he felt tattoos is like collecting art. “I ended up getting them as fast as I could, just going through a really crazy rebellious period. I got a lot of them but yes, [Anil Gupta] had given me one of my best tattoos. I’m going to go back to him. I still have tattoo removal being done now.” (Complex)
Back in 2008, the platinum-selling producer discussed the process of getting rid of his tats.
The NERD frontman – who last month played an exclusive set at Harvey Nichols to launch his latest collections – has revealed that he is trying a revolutionary new removal procedure, which involves applying new skin over old body art. “It’s basically like getting a skin graft, but you’re not taking skin from your a** or your legs. These guys actually grow the skin for you,” he explains. “First you have to give them a sample of your skin, which they then replicate. Once that’s been done, they sew it on – and it’s seamless.” (Vogue)
A couple years ago, rap star 50 Cent revealed his motivation for having some tats taken off.
“It cuts down on the amount of time I have to spend in makeup covering them up,” 50 Cent says about his decision, which he calls “an ongoing process.” Still, don’t expect him to rid himself of all the ink. His arms may be tattoo free, but 50’s vowed to keep a tattoo on his back. (People)
G-Unit’s Lloyd Banks previously admitted the painful procedure swayed him away from considering tattoo removal.
Lloyd Banks confirmed 50’s tattoo removal by saying: “I tell you one thing, that sh*t hurts more than getting a tattoo so I won’t be removing none of mine. But 50 started taking some of them off. If you look at his arms now you’re going to see it.” (The Insider)
