[With the motto “Started From The Bottom” still as relevant as ever, New York do-gooder Rob Solano tells SOHH a heartwarming, motivational story about bringing hope and championship accomplishments to local kids.]

I’m a young dad; had my first born at 17 years old. I am Hispanic and was brought up in a tough neighborhood. I currently live in Canarsie, Brooklyn. I am salesman. The true inspiration in my life is my son, Matt. I wanted to be more involved in his life so I decided to coach his baseball team when he turned 7. I wanted to give Matt the dad I never had growing up.

I provide kids with a vision of their potential by putting them in situations, where they can see for themselves what they are really made out of. I assist them in proving their self-worth. Surround them with other kids that will help them gain the confidence they need to succeed on and off the field.

The connection begins both with sports and kids who are brought specifically to me. A lot of kids from various places come wanting to be part of MY team. I hand select the kids I want to take in based on character, personality and a bitter background.
My first questions to a prospective player are: Do you smoke weed or are you in a gang? Where do you see yourself in the future?

Parents facing hardships bring their kids to me because they see me as a mentor. I hold the boys accountable to their schoolwork, behavior, as well as other responsibilities.
