“Capo ” recording artist NLE Choppa continues to show love for the family of late 29-year-old Tyre Nichols. Following a peaceful protest he held in Memphis, Tenn., alongside local skateboarders, Choppa is now officially in the works of organizing a charity to honor the Nichols family.
The organization, Skate for Tyre, was partially inspired by Nichols’ admiration for skateboarding, as seen in videos where he would film himself performing tricks. Choppa originally used the charity’s name while peacefully protesting his passing as a social media movement.
Now, he plans to collect funds for the organization to provide monetary support for his immediate family and his four-year-old son.

The rapper also spoke on the numbness of watching videos of senseless killings by police.

“I felt like I kind of channelled what he wanted the world to do, what he wanted Memphis to do,” he said. Instead of doing something negative, tearing down the city, he wanted to be remembered as love.”
Choppa continued, “Rather than seeing him being beaten, how about us coming out here representing something that he loved, let’s represent him with love with something he loved to do, which was skate.”
