West Coast rapper Nipsey Hussle is out here putting some context behind the drama Cardi B recently sparked with the Crips. The hip-hop artist has come forward to explain why B’s now-infamous social media caption created so much tension.
In Nipsey’s opinion, B’s East Coast ties make her unable to fully understand the Bloods/Crips culture in the West.
“She’s from New York. There’s a different reality to gang banging on the East Coast than there is in L.A. This is a 30-40 year culture out here. People died in the ’80s. Uncles and homies got killed behind this thing. So there’s a different level of sensitivity. … The disrespect happens when you go public and you not in the privacy of your hood or your homies.” (Big Boy TV)
Last week, Nipsey’s longtime pal YG – a known Blood – flexed his support for Cardi amid alleged death threats from Los Angeles Crips.
“Look at my lights, look at my [red car] lights. Sowoop! Aye! The homegirl straight. She get love, she get love from me, know what I’m sayin’?” (TMZ)
Earlier this month, reports surfaced about Cardi catching heat and gang threats over a Crip-related Instagram post.
On Monday, Cardi put up a shot of herself rocking a blue fur coat in Minneapolis. Her caption said, “I hate wearing Flue but this coat was too poppin.” It’s that word “Flue” that has her in serious hot water — it’s a way to knock Crips favorite color, blue, without using the actual word. Cardi’s publicly stated she is a Blood, so the post — which has more than a million likes — pissed off the rival Crips, who not only left angry comments … some flat-out threatened her. The rapper’s scheduled to come to L.A. for NBA All-Star festivities in about 10 days … and her new enemies know it. One comment said, “@iamcardib this will not be accepted #DONTCOMETOLA.” (TMZ)
Subsequently, Cardi has edited the pic to make it captionless and banned commenting.
