According to reports, Hussle has sold 60 copies of his $1,000-priced albums.

“It surprises me,” he says. “As much as I believe in it. Every time I get a transaction, I get a text on my phone, and I’ve been hitting them back. The feedback and the connection I have with these people help me understand the psychology of the person paying $1,000 for some songs that, realistically, you could download for free.” (The Guardian)

Hussle also talked about how he measured the success of his album release.

“Money is a tool – it’s the means, not the end. [Inspiration is] the metric that dictates whether or not a project is a success. It’s more realistic than trying to aim for radio play, or trying to satisfy an A&R, or the other gatekeepers on these platforms. I don’t even know how to create with those things in mind. But if you tell me the goal is to inspire? That makes my job a lot easier.” (The Guardian)

Recent reports revealed the upcoming release would come with the hefty price tag for anyone interested in physical versions.

“There will only be 100 hard copies and they are $1000 each,” he told MTV News, adding that it will also be released for free via iTunes and the Proud 2 Pay platform built for the Crenshaw release. “The 100 people that buy the P2P version will be granted access to a private advance listening session of [upcoming 2015 album] Victory Lap at the secret Marathon Store we are going to open the day of the listening!” (MTV)

Last year, Nipsey made headlines for selling his Crewshaw project at $100 a piece.

In addition to unveiling the cover, the Los Angeles rapper revealed that it will be released on the same Proud 2 Pay scale as his 2013 mixtape, Crenshaw, which he sold 1,000 copies of at $100 a piece. The first leak off the project is a cut called “50 N*ggaz,” produced by Mike Keys and 1500 Or Nothin. (Baller Status)

  1. i wouldnt pay $1000 worth of food stamps for that crap…. rich white kidz with mommy and daddyzzz money are paying for it just so they can say ” i paid $1000 bucks for this album… na na boo boo”

    • Why you mad tho? Haha let them spend their rich allowance, that’s the purpose! Now lil wayne should have got with a dj and formed a group which is seperate from his cash money deal if he’s not on a 360 and put one of these out, he would cake off it, especially with birdman not giving him what he think he deserves. You have to outsmart your “owners” when you negotiate your deal, especially if you have power yell

    • its a publicity stunt. Nipsey is saying he sold that many, its undocumented. but the press eats it up. free press bro!

  2. Props to him for even selling that many copies with that type of price tag attached, the album is dope af too.
