[With the recent release of his “Brutus” album still buzzing, Javotti Media’s Niko Is talks to SOHH about being an artist on rap veteran Talib Kweli’s music label.]
Life presents opportunities for you sometimes. We did the “Carmen” feature with [Talib Kweli] two years ago and I never thought or expected that Talib Kweli was going to sign me.
That’s not what I was going for. Everything we do at Colours of Culture, we bring everything we do to the videos, to the market and everything else. We don’t outsource anything.
That’s one thing Kweli saw. He said, “Well, these cats don’t really need me. I don’t really have to do anything. I can just press a button. I can just give him support and the co-sign.”
We got together and now he’s just taking it to the next level. We’re doing what we gotta do at Javotti Media.
He’s doing what he has to do on the business side and I’m super happy about that. Kweli is super OG and super inspirational.
He’s taking us on the road. Sh*t like that happens. It’s an honor and I’m humbled to be here.
