One day I was at my spot in Beverly Hills and [Karl Kani] was there in the back eating and I met him. I had met him before but we didn’t really have a chance to speak or anything.
We chopped it up and I just told him, “You’re from Brooklyn. I’m a fan of what you do. In my eyes, you’re a legend.” Whether you know how he looks or not, everyone knows the name Karl Kani.
I told him I thought I would be a good person to do your campaign. He was like, “I’m down.”
It just happened like that. I’m really happy about it. I’m not going to lie. That’s like one of my favorite things I’ve done. I love the whole clothing world and the fashion.
I think that’s something good, to let people see I’m not just a rap artist. I want to be looked at as a persona.
I want to be one of those people where you can say, “All right, he doesn’t have a hot song out but he’s still that dude.”
There’s some people who are superstars whether they have a hot song out or not. That’s where I want to be.
