Young Money's Nicki Minaj is reportedly going to treat fans to a new Pink Print gem when she appears at the annual MTV Video Music Awards ceremony later this month.
Although details are still slim, reports claim Minaj will show off her vocal skills on live television.
When Nicki Minaj shows up at the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday, August 24, it’ll be to deliver her performance at the big show. And, she’ll be treating us to new music from her upcoming third album, The Pinkprint. “Anaconda” live? Yes, please. Nicki’s made a couple of appearances in the past — including her 2010 set at the VMAs pre-show, and a feature during Alicia Keys’ 2012 performance of “Girl on Fire” — and this time should be even more jaw-dropping, just the way we like it. Recently, Minaj revealed YMCMB labelmate Drake applauded her decision to introduce new topics on the upcoming LP.
“So sonically I think the album sounds so amazing. And there are so many surprises on the album. I had Drake come by the studio the other day and he was like “Omg, you’re talking about new stuff, I’m so proud of you.” And that’s what I’m most excited about. I’m speaking about new things on this album. I’m excited I’m not allowing anyone else to define what the album is going to be. I’m comfortable, its not going to be rushed, I’m taking my time. But overall the music just sounds really, really great. There’s no substitute for that.” (Radio)
Minaj also acknowledged how much Young Money boss Lil Wayne motivated her earlier this summer.
“He hasn’t played any role on my album other than saying, you better rap, you better body these beats. We’re actually in the same studio right now, starting from today for a few weeks. My connection with Wayne is so deep that I don’t gotta be on his album and he don’t gotta be on my album for him to always play a role as a mentor in my life.” (BBC Radio 1Xtra)
Although he would not dish out release dates, Young Money president Mack Maine admitted Nicki’s long-awaited LP would arrive before Wayne’s Carter V back in June.
With Nicki’s upcoming album having an extremely strong presence last night at Hot 97?s Summer Jam, one had to wonder if this was in fact strategic. When asked if YMCMB had plans to release The Pink Print prior to Tha Carter V, Mack Maine responded, “It will be before Carter V as of now….no concrete date yet.” (XXL Mag)
