Kenneth Petty, also known as the husband of rapper Nicki Minaj, was denied getting off the New York State sex offender registry, according to reports from the Brooklyn Federal Court.

Petty landed on the sex offender list after he was convicted of attempted rape in 1995 for a sexual attack on a 16-year-old girl.

Alan Gerson’s attorney said Petty was never notified about a 2004 hearing that would allow him to challenge his registry status. He also contended that someone forged Petty’s signature on a document about the proceeding.

Petty also claimed he couldn’t have been at the hearing because he was in a state prison. However, a court transcript revealed Petty was present at the 2004 hearing, which he claimed he was unaware of at the time.

In addition, he also didn’t object to being listed as a level two sex offender. After the state attorney general’s office provided the court with a copy of the transcript in a court filing, Petty asked Judge Eric Komitee to have his lawsuit withdrawn.

Petty’s attorney, Jennifer Michaelson, said they’re not going to contest it” and that he was “satisfied with level two.”
