Young Money’s Nicki Minaj is finally reaping the benefits of her chart-topping The Pinkprint album after winning big at last night’s “American Music Awards.”
Nicki won multiple trophies at the annual ceremony and beat out stiff competition from fellow Young Money labelmate Drake.
Nicki Minaj won her first American Music Award of the night — and fifth overall — for her album “The Pinkprint,” which won in the category or R&B/hip-hop album. She bested releases from Drake and J. Cole. “I personally feel like I have the best fans on the planet,” Minaj said while accepting the award. The AMAs are fan-voted. Before leaving the stage, she encouraged fans to “find your voice and find your purpose before it’s too late.” (Los Angeles Times)

Music stars Taylor Swift and One Direction also made headlines throughout the night.
An absent Taylor Swift dominated the American Music Awards, winning three prizes, including album of the year and song of the year. One Direction also fared well, being named favourite group and artist of the year, for the second year in a row. R&B singer The Weeknd flexed his vocal skills during the live television broadcast.
The Weeknd’s performance was also a favorite, and he walked away with two awards, and presented the first one from Prince. “Make some noise for Prince, ladies and gentlemen,” the singer said after picking up favorite album — soul/R&B for “Beauty Behind the Madness.” (Fox News)
