Young Money's Nicki Minaj has finally responded to close friend DJ Khaled's wedding proposal after making headlines last week by publicly asking for her hand in marriage.
Despite the attention and hype, Minaj downplayed the proposal’s seriousness.
“Nobody in my real life took it seriously. Everybody just hit me like, ‘LOL. Yo, Khaled is crazy,'” Nicki said in an interview. “Khaled is my brother and Khaled was not serious with that damn proposal, y’all. Please let it go. He was kidding. He’s not attracted to me, he doesn’t like me. We’re brother and sister.” (Hot 97)
Coincidentally, a photo of Nicki wearing what appeared to be an engagement ring from Khaled started to make its rounds online this week.

Nicki Minaj has yet to publicly address DJ Khaled’s memorable MTV video proposal, but the “Super Bass” singer raised eyebrows when she stepped out to dinner in Beverly Hills on Saturday, July 27, with a new accessory around her ring finger. The 30-year-old rapper wore an attention-grabbing ensemble for her evening outing, including a bright neon mesh cap, pink shirt and pastel yellow high-waisted jeans. Minaj brushed her blonde hair aside with her left hand — which boasted an impressive sparkler on her ring finger — multiple times. (Us Weekly)
Khaled also responded to reports which claimed Minaj filed a restraining order against him following the proposal.
“Y’all know better than that they don’t put restraining orders on bosses I’m the DON U witnessing greatness I’m the best that ever did it! JUS KNOW! #sufferingfromsuccess,” Khaled wrote via Instagram July 28. (DJ Khaled’s Instagram)
Some media outlets believe Khaled’s proposal and Nicki’s new ring were staged.

Despite the widespread doubt, Khaled said his proposal was fully legit.
“I’m at a point in my career, you got to understand, I ain’t a young boy anymore,” Khaled said in an interview. “I just had to be honest. I’ve always liked her, she’s my friend, of course, and I like her. It’s more than just a crush. I want to be honest — she’s out there hustling and I respect that. I can take care of her and not just that, she’s beautiful. … Of course I want to marry her. I’m sure there’s other people who want to marry her. I just felt like I want to be honest with her. … I love the girl, I like her. … If she says no, it’s all good. She’s my friend. She might not be ready for marriage. I want kids, I want a lot of things, you gotta be ready for this, but, I’m gonna keep it real, I’m going to tell her how I feel. … She might say yes tonight or tomorrow, she might say yeah next year.
