St. Lunatic associate Ortega “Tega” Henderson has reportedly been announced dead after suffering bullet wounds from a shooting earlier this month.
The rapper reportedly passed away on Wednesday (May 27).
Henderson, an up-and-coming rapper who traveled in the same orbit as fellow artist Nelly, died of injuries suffered May 16 in a shooting, his friends and family said. Henderson, 25, who performed and recorded under the name “Tega,” had been working on an album with his group, Da Camp, said a friend, Kyjuan Cleveland, a member of the hip-hop group St. Lunatics. Henderson died Wednesday at Barnes-Jewish Hospital. Da Camp members had distributed mix tapes of their work and had hoped to finish recording an album that would piggyback the upcoming release of a solo record by another St. Lunatics member, Murphy Lee. Da Camp was often featured on rap bills with the St. Lunatics and Nelly. (STL Today)
St. Lunatic Kyjuan Cleveland recently discussed the rapper’s troubles.
“He got mixed up in the streets, but he was so talented, we thought we could pull him out of it,” Cleveland explained. “He was on the right path for a minute, but times are hard and he started getting around the wrong people.” (Statement)
St. Louis rapper Baby Huey was previously dropped from a concert alongside Nelly after reports emerged that he may have been the target of a triple-homicide in his hometown.
Fans were informed that 21 year-old rapper Huey, best known for his 2007 hit single “Pop, Lock & Drop It” had been scratched from the line-up at the last minute. Huey was asked to not perform because he may have been the target of a triple-homicide that occurred in downtown St. Louis earlier this month. In that incident, three men were gunned down on Friday, May 8. They had just left a concert by rapper Yo Gotti at Club Society, located near Union Station and were idling at a stoplight when another car pulled up alongside them and fired multiple times, killing them instantly. DJ AJ from The Beat (100.3 FM), the organizer and promoter of Sunday’s show, said the decision to remove Huey from the bill was made on Saturday night when Pageant management told him that St. Louis police believe Huey was in the vicinity of the May 8 drive-by. Tega’s killing comes on the heels of 21 year-old rapper Roderick “Dolla” Burton‘s death, who was recently a victim to gun violence.
A Georgia man has been arrested for investigation of murder in the fatal shooting of Dolla. Los Angeles police said in a statement Tuesday that 23-year-old Aubrey Louis Berry of Georgia was arrested at Los Angeles International Airport with a gun on Monday night. His bail was set at $1 million. (Fox News)
