With NBA 2K17 now available, NBA 2K Senior Producer Rob Jones speaks to SOHH about why your favorite legendary teams sometimes come and go with each new release.

According to Jones, specific retired players’ real-life NBA deals often determines whether or not a full legendary roster will be available.

“The legendary teams feature from game to game is strictly a roster issue for us. We get a ton of players based on our deal with the NBA but there’s some guys who have not negotiated a deal for their rights after they’ve retired. What happens is we’ll get in there and if we believe we can’t create a roster that’s actually indicative of that team, we won’t. What’s the point of having a team if you don’t have the superstar you wanted and then at least 80 percent of the rest of the guys What’s the point in doing that?” (SOHH)
