Rap veteran Nas has come to the defense of Chief Keef in light of the negative attention the Chicago teen has received over criminal activity and frequent run-ins with law enforcement.
Nasty Nas took a hands-on approach to understanding why Keef may behave the way he does.
“What people gotta understand that in the street, you don’t exist until you do something to put your name on one of the history book pages. When you out there and you think you have nothing, the smallest thing can give you some purpose,” he lamented. “Whether it’s you make people scared of you, you demand respect, you put fear in people’s hearts around you, you took something from this dude, you joined that crew and you about that life… Whatever you’re doing, you feel like now you can be counted. So people don’t care about consequences because they feel like they’re starting from nothing, anyway.” (REVOLT TV)
The rap mogul also acknowledged there are people throughout the world going through Keef’s issues.
“If you feel like you a zero, if you’re nothing, then you’ll do anything because you don’t want to be nothing,” the respected MC added. “You want to do anything to feel alive, and that anything could be the penitentiary chances you taking, but whatever it is, you’re gonna do it.” “It’s a tangled web we in as people – not just black people, Puerto Rican people, white people, Indians over in India is losing their minds and going crazy – it’s hard to cope just as people. There is no answers,” summed up Nas. (REVOLT TV)
Last year, fellow New York native Talib Kweli suggested Keef was merely going through a phase and believed the teen would create different content in the years to come.
“I don’t care because that’s like a novelty thing,” Kweli said in an interview when asked how young is “too young” to rap about street life. “I don’t know who Lil’ Mouse is but as far as Chief Keef, Chief Keef is obviously a product of his environment. He’s somebody who comes out of a very horrificly violent neighborhood of Chicago. Whether you think he’s skilled or not, what he’s doing is extremely positive. Even if he’s gangbanging on records, I’d rather him gang bang on records than in the streets and if you gang bang on records, you’re at some point going to have respect for music and you’re going to grow out of that. Snoop Dogg used to gang bang on records, now he’s Snoop Lion. If Chief Keef could get to Snoop’s stage, his content will change, you’ll see him grow up. I want to see him live, I don’t want to see him die.” (Karmaloop TV)
Prior to a recent shooting at his manager’s home and his cousin being killed, the rapper spent some time in handcuffs.
When officers approached the vehicle, we’re told it reeked of pot and, according to our sources, Keef openly admitted to smoking before driving. We’re told police administered a field sobriety test and Keef choked. He was placed under arrest at the scene. In addition to DUI, Keef was also charged with driving on a suspended license and cited for having no proof of insurance. (TMZ)
