Despite a rocky split, Nas and Kelis spent nearly four years together.
In 2003, he and R&B singer Kelis began the relationship. They tied the knot in 2005, making national headlines. Their marriage was short-lived, though and just 4 years later Kelis filed for divorce. A spokesperson recalled her reasoning as “irreconcilable differences”, and the divorce was finalized in May of 2010. Why these abuse allegations were just made public now is unknown, and is somewhat peculiar considering their relationship ended almost a decade ago now. (SOHH)
Recently, Kelis made headlines after breaking her silence on their marriage.
“There was a lot of mental and physical abuse”, Kelis said. “His memory is definitely faulty. I’ve waited 9 years to say anything. I have never talked about this man. The amount of airing out that I could do and don’t do is what our kids will find out. … We had really intense highs and really intense lows. It was never normal. Though, it seems he has a heart, it seems to be stuck somewhere between his Diamonds and Pearls. In life there are times when speaking needs to happen but either you can’t find the right words or the words just don’t come. When the happens destiny is still in the making. Nas talks about truth. Well they always say there are 3 sides to a story and I am the 3rd side.
First, it kills me that he has the audacity to call Ellis jealous. Maybe she still is and if there is any truth to the methods Nas is claiming she used to keep him away from his creativity or his personal and professional connections, I am sure at the time she felt justified in her behavior. I have to respect her feeling because of what I know about being a woman in a relationship or even a jump off situation because I have been there. Where listen here. Nas, as her King you missed a move someplace. You did not honor her for bringing her milkshake to your yard or make her feel beautiful and valuable enough. TBC….
