Thank god we’re speaking hypothetically about this but I probably would have tried to segue into something to do with fashion and clothing and things of that nature and probably expand on my Fashawn merchandise.

I probably would have started a clothing line or had a boutique store, or definitely a skate shop. I’d definitely had been a skate shop owner if I had taken a left turn on my career.

But thank god I got the call from Mass Appeal and Nas because music is second nature to me. I can make music whether I get paid for it or not. I do that by nature, me and my brothers rap all the time. The fact that I could make an occupation out of my hobby, thank god for that. Thank god I don’t have to convert to other things.

I was obsessed with skateboarding, still am to this day. 1999 was a real definitive year for me, it was the year that Eminem was at his height and DMX.

These two guys were my idols and Em had his problems with his my mother, like I had with my mother, and DMX had his group home background like I did and so I gravitated towards these two guys.

That inspired me to keep going, at the time I was really young. Those guys really inspired me, to just be comfortable with my life story, opposed to just being a dope rapper.

They made me more comfortable with giving my fans my life story as opposed to just being better than the next MC. -as told to SOHH writer Nikita Rathod

  1. no shade . . but nas aint really got a rep for bringing cats into the game sucessfully . . where quan at?

  2. Love how no one works regular jobs anymore…..”if i wasn’t a rapper I would own a boutique store” FOH …… if you got it like that you dont gotta be rapping cuz his music really isnt hot.

    • Thats what I’m saying. How the hell you can own your own business if you’re down on your luck? dudes straight anyways.

  3. The game isnt what it was. I used to listen to NAS as a youngster and Jada, triple six and other people. I would hear with everybar why they are rapping and what theyd be doing if not. They didnt have options really. The game isnt about overcoming anymore.
