New York rapper Nas is in rare form. The hip-hop veteran has come forward with an emotionally-driven open letter about his publicized child support battle with ex-wife Kelis.

Despite a rocky split, Nas and Kelis spent nearly four years together.
In 2003, he and R&B singer Kelis began the relationship. They tied the knot in 2005, making national headlines. Their marriage was short-lived, though and just 4 years later Kelis filed for divorce. A spokesperson recalled her reasoning as “irreconcilable differences”, and the divorce was finalized in May of 2010. “There was a lot of mental and physical abuse”, Kelis said. “His memory is definitely faulty. I’ve waited 9 years to say anything. I have never talked about this man. The amount of airing out that I could do and don’t do is what our kids will find out. … We had really intense highs and really intense lows. It was never normal. Nas you are Real G!! Takes a lot to remain silent and calm doing rough times!! But there is only so much a MAN can take when it comes to his kids and his name being disrespected.I knew Kelis was not the Queen for you from day 1
