Rap veteran Nas recently talked about a long-awaited "Sinatra In The Sands" collaboration with Jay Z and estimated how long fans should expect to wait before hearing the mystery anthem.

Along with talking about the Jay record, Nasir Jones also spoke on the buzz Seattle rapper Macklemore has recently sparked.

According to Nas, the song will “hopefully” come out in the next six months, at least “when the time is right.” But while we’re waiting for that all-star collaboration to be released, Nas wouldn’t be opposed to working with Macklemore. When asked his feelings about it, he said, “We might as well…He’s a positive storyteller. [Y]ou have to respect him for that.” (Complex)

Last fall, Nasty Nas admitted he relished the studio time with some of hip-hop’s greatest modern day moguls.

“Excitement,” Nas said when asked about the process of working with Jay and mega producer Timbaland. “Excitement to work and be in the place that we’re all are at, musically. Those are the guys who lasted the test of time, and those guys are at the top of their game. They’re just company to be in. So that’s the whole vibe of that. And of course the title says it all.” (Huffington Post)

Nasir Jones also delved into the overall meaning behind the star-studded collaboration.

“More like from a musician’s stand point, someone who’ve been around. Because Sinatra has been around and he has a long, long standing with the stage and the audience for years. And he evolved. His talent got better just like wine. And I think that’s something a lot of people want to achieve. So that’s what this song is really about. Striving to be the best you, like Sinatra had become.” (Huffington Post)

R&B singer Justin Timberlake recently provided insight on how the song came together and admitted he had no idea producer Timbaland planned to add Jay Z to the track.

“Originally I think it was something that Tim and I, Tim obviously did the beat and I wrote a hook on it where I sort of sang in the style of Frank Sinatra. I didn’t know that Jay was gonna be on it. I haven’t heard it done, I’ve only heard what Tim and I did together. I haven’t heard any verses. It’s a mid. It gives you that feeling though of this easygoing, I don’t want to say too much about it ’cause I haven’t heard the end of it and Tim has known to go back and [say, ‘I flipped the beat.’]” (“The Angie Martinez Show”)

In early June, a leaked photo revealed Young Hov clocking in studio time with Tim, Nas and JT.

If there was a competition for hip hop collaborations, then this would surely be the “Dream Team” — Jay-Z, Justin Timberlake, Nas and Timbaland. The foursome have been snapped together in the studio, and they’re seemingly in good spirits as they pour over some tunes. The well-connected Lenny S–aka the “Kodak Man” – shared the photo to the 44,000-plus followers of his “Kodaklens” Instagram page. His caption reads: “JAY x JT x NAS x TIMBO Rat Pack sh*t. For some this is “Work”… For us it’s just Fun. #RocNation” Quite what the fruits of those “fun” sessions sound like is the big unanswered question. (Billboard)
