Although the tweet no longer appears on his Twitter page, screenshots of his remarks are spreading online.

“Last week’s shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary in Connecticut has been understood as a national tragedy. It’s no surprise, then, that rappers have been responding to the tragic events–on Twitter, in interviews, or through songs. In hip-hop and beyond, most have been expressing what an awful event the shootings were. This morning, though, Gunplay took a bit of a different approach, when he tweeted that, “Government killed dem kids to take our guns away. Another 9/11. Dont get it twisted.” He followed that up with another, where he posited that, “Yall are sheeple 4 thinking da government aint gotta hand in every crisis since the great depression.” He has since deleted the tweets, but below check out a screenshot from his page of the first tweet, and then of a RT of his second.” (XXL Mag)

A few days ago, Grand Hustle leader T.I. spoke on the Connecticut tragedy.

“It’s a tragedy and it’s a travesty, it was a catastrophic event. My heart goes out to the families. As a parent, there’s no way that you can hear or see or observe something like that go on and not be touched in your heart. Just to know somewhere so sacred, somewhere that is supposed to be completely off limits to any kind of wrongdoing, something like that can happen to kindergarteners — I don’t want to run the risk of sounding inappropriate but that is exactly the reason why I had mines. At any time, if anybody calls me, anytime, when I had mines, I’m pulling up with ’em and the whole perimeter will be secure and ain’t nobody moving but us. … I haven’t been to the military but I’m very militant-minded when it come to protecting.” (“Sway In The Morning”)

Following the horrific murders, President Barack Obama publicly spoke out.

The slaughter of 27 innocents by a madman in Newtown, CT on Monday left Newtown residents in mourning and the country in shock. But one man, the president of the United States, managed to find a cute photo opportunity amid the tears and grief. Obama was recently criticized for honoring the late civil rights icon Rosa Parks by tweeting an image of himself taken in April at the Henry Ford Museum. From NBC News: President Barack Obama, the father of two daughters, brought “the love and prayers of a nation” Sunday to the people of Newtown, Conn., in an emotional address at an interfaith vigil after he visited with the parents of the 20 boys and girls who were killed Friday in their elementary school classroom. “Newtown, you are not alone,” the president said. “As these difficult days have unfolded, you have also inspired us with stories of strength and resolve and sacrifice.” (Sandra Rose)

The shooting took place in Newtown, Connecticut just six days ago.

Twenty-nine people, including 22 children, have been killed in a shooting at a US school, one of the worst gun massacres in the country’s history. A law enforcement official said the suspect in the attack at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, is a 20-year-old man with links to the school. Another official said the gunman was killed and apparently had two guns, one of which was a .223-calibre rifle. (Belfast Telegraph)
