[With his new “Cake” music video hitting everyone’s sweet tooth this week, Ohio native MistaRogers talks to SOHH about the must-see visual and his relationship with featured artist Ray Jr.]
The whole “Cake” concept came together out of going to Los Angeles. We were down there over Halloween [2014] and most of that video was us hanging out at a house.
I live in California and we were out in Los Angeles for Halloween at a house we had rented for a weekend. You can see in the video that we were really having a lot of fun.
Despite it being a video shoot, it really was just us hanging out and just capturing the moment, piecing it together and trying to get a good video.
The vibe we had that weekend was totally turned up and we were turned up that entire time. LA should be like that. I wanted to capture those moments and hopefully convey to the camera that we’re hanging out, there’s a lot of girls around us and Ray Jr. is featured on that video.
He’s also out of Cleveland, Ohio and has a wave going. So I just wanted to make sure we stay relevant. Even though we have a song together from last July, I wanted to start the New Year off with something new.
I wanted to shoot the video now so people could become more familiar with what we’re doing as a movement.
I definitely am Team Ohio. That’s where I was raised. I really just started doing this career on my own. My first release was last July, “Dying To Live” with DJ Drama, and I had the project almost done and when me and Ray Jr. got together, he was the fuel to push me to get it done.
Moving forward, I see me and Ray doing work together throughout our careers and in a lot of different ways because we both have the same kinds of things in mind as far as success go.
I got a feeling me and Ray will have stuff going on for years. That’s what I mean by the movement meaning, I’m Money Hungry and he’s Legit Paper, we both have our own situations. We’re independent but being from Ohio, we want to endorse each other as best we can and get everybody to get up together.
