Get Your Drink On!

Twenty-five years ago, the world was introduced to Missy “Misdemeanor” Elliott when she released her debut studio album Supa Dupa Fly and Under Construction shortly after. Last weekend, the hip-hop pioneer spoke with Rolling Stone about her decades-spanning career, her recent partnership with tequila brand Patròn, and more.

Missy Elliott, the decades-spanning rapper, songwriter, and producer, has much to be thankful for this year. Today marks 25 years since her first album, Supa Dupa Fly, and 20 years since her fourth studio album, Under Construction featuring the smash hit “Work It.”

Also, similar to Remy Ma, her hometown of Portsmouth, Virginia, recently named a street after her, and her new wax figure was unveiled at Madame Tussaud’s wax museum.  Elliot recently spoke with Rolling Stone to reflect on her storied career and new partnership with Patròn

The two collaborated to release Patròn El Alto. Sold for $179, the drink is made with a blend of Reposado, Anejo, and Extra Anejo tequilas in a tall blue bottle.

Missy Elliott + Other Rappers Partnering With Liquor Companies

Elliott joins other rappers who’ve released their signature line of alcoholic beverages. Snoop Dogg dropped his line of wine in partnership with 19 Crimes titled Snoop Cali Red, and Sean “Diddy” Combs” has a long-standing relationship with the premium vodka Ciroc.

On remaining creative in her career, Ms. Supa Dupa Fly shared:

“I continuously push the envelope just to do something that’s greater than the last. And it just keeps getting higher, the expectations for myself.”

“Iconic”

Despite her accolades, she believes many other talented artists are still waiting to be discovered.

“The newer ones I’d like to see are the ones that make that impact. Impact is not about how many records you release, but about how you make the people feel.”

In 2019, the MTV Video Vanguard Award recipient posed with her wax figure in a series of playful photos on Instagram rocking the same “Iconic” chain.

Remy Ma Assembles All-Woman Rap League

The New York-based rapper Remy Ma dropped the trailer for her all-women battle rap league show, Chrome 23. The video shows Remy Ma and various female rappers dressed as bank robbers while Remy narrates.

Remy announced the show last December and also served as the executive producer. The show is invite-only and is live-streamed.
