According to reports, Missy’s Super Bowl performance immediately brought more attention to her music.
Elliott’s performance of the hit songs Lose Control, Get Ur Freak On and Work It had viewers rushing to Spotify to stream the music. From 7 p.m. to midnight ET on Sunday, Elliott’s streams showed an overall increase of 676%, with Lose Control increasing 1,396%, according to Spotify. (USA Today)
Elliott joined Perry on-stage and performed her early 2000’s hit “Get Ur Freak On” at the University of Phoenix.
When Perry launched into “Teenage Dream,” dancing beach balls, surfboards, sharks and even palm trees joined her on stage. Then Missy Elliott had a surprise cameo and sang, “Get Ur Freak on” Perry finished the show with an explosive rendition of “Firework” and it was explosive — with plenty of fireworks taking flight outside the stadium. Elliott previously appeared on Katy’s “Last Friday Night” remix.
The inclusion of Elliott was as superfluous as The Red Hot Chili Peppers last year, but at least Katy and Missy’s music has something in common. Elliott guested on a remix on that remix of Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.) a few years back, so the rapper’s rhymes flowed nicely over the sleek, stylized, pop beats from music’s biggest hit-makers. But her part of the show was hardly epic and instantly forgettable. (USA Today)
