According to reports, Nicki’s new “Anaconda” anthem put her over the King of Pop.

Well, I bet you didn’t see this coming: Nicki Minaj this week pulls ahead of Michael Jackson on Billboard’s official tally of artists with the most Hot 100 hits. Minaj logs her 51st Hot 100 hit as her new “Anaconda” debuts at #19. Jackson has amassed 50 chart hits, from 1971’s “Got To Be There” to two hits this year: “Slave to the Rhythm” and “Love Never Felt So Good,” a from-the-grave collabo with Justin Timberlake. (Yahoo)

Despite the perception, reports also claim there is a distinction in the types of Hot 100 hits Minaj has earned since 2010.

“Anaconda” is just Minaj’s 20th Hot 100 hit as a lead (or co-lead) artist. The rest of her hits have been featured credits. By contrast, Jackson was in the lead (or co-lead) spot on all 50 of his Hot 100 hits. Jackson could have padded his tally a little bit if he had elected to take a featured credit on Rockwell’s “Somebody’s Watching Me” (#2 in 1984) or Diana Ross’s “Eaten Alive” (#77 in 1985), but he didn’t. Nicki made sure to celebrate her accomplishment on social media this week.

“Made history today. I didn’t even know I was tied with Michael Jackson with 50 Hot 100 entries on Billboard. Anaconda makes 51 and now I’m tied with Rod Stewart. God bless, and thank you.,” Minaj captioned August 13. (Nicki Minaj’s Instagram)

The rap star is expected to perform at the upcoming MTV Video Music Awards show.

When Nicki Minaj shows up at the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday, August 24, it’ll be to deliver her performance at the big show. And, she’ll be treating us to new music from her upcoming third album, The Pinkprint. “Anaconda” live? Yes, please. Nicki’s made a couple of appearances in the past — including her 2010 set at the VMAs pre-show, and a feature during Alicia Keys’ 2012 performance of “Girl on Fire” — and this time should be even more jaw-dropping, just the way we like it.
