Caught off-guard when approached by paparazzi, Metta said he had no idea why D-12 wanted to try his luck in the Lone Star State.

You’d THINK Los Angeles Lakers star Metta World Peace would be one of the FIRST one’s to know that Dwight Howard ditched the team for the Houston Rockets … turns out, he was one of the last. Metta was leaving Mastro’s in Beverly Hills on Saturday night with his GF Shin Shin when we asked how he felt about the move — but to our surprise (and his), Metta told us he had NO IDEA Howard picked the Rockets. The reaction seems legit … considering Shin Shin seemed just as shocked. “I don’t know what happened,” Metta said … “He’s going to Houston?” Metta explained he doesn’t pay attention to basketball in the off-season (he spends his time watching TMZ) … but says he’ll call Dwight to figure out what the hell went wrong. Fellow Laker Kobe Bryant has defended his decision to unfollow D-12 on Twitter.

“I wish d12 the best honestly. I just find it hard to follow players that wanna kick my teams ass #thatsjustme,” Bryant tweeted July 8. (USA Today)

Kobe may have to give Metta World Peace a hug good-bye as reports claim his days on the Lakers roster are numbered.

It’s been a busy day in Lakerland as the team agreed to terms on a one-year contract with Chris Kaman and it’s been reported that they’ll amnesty Metta World Peace. While they can’t officially announce the transaction with World Peace until July 10-16, Lakers guard Kobe Bryant confirmed the transaction via his Twitter account tonight: No game 7 win without Metta! This is a tough day for laker nation #misspeace #newcbacasualty. World Peace was praised by Bryant several times due to his incredible work ethic and uncanny determination to win at all costs, something that resonated deeply with Bryant. (Lakers Nation)

Last week, Howard stood behind joining the Rockets after a short-lived season in Los Angeles.

“[A championship is] the priority. That’s the priority. [Shoot], I’m betting $30 million on it,” Howard told ESPNLosAngeles.com in a phone interview Friday night, referencing the amount of money he likely will leave on the table by bolting Los Angeles for Houston. “I just looked at both teams and I felt like Houston was going in one direction — they got a lot of young players, they got a good coach in Kevin McHale and I just felt like having him as a coach, he could really help me in the post and help me develop like I want to. That was mainly the big reason right there, and having the opportunity to grow with a team, a young team, like the Rockets. That’s the reason why [I decided to leave].” (ESPN)
