In a recent interview, M-e-t-h-o-d Man explained The Meth Lab would precede his Crystal Meth album.

“I kept it real and low-key, like I do in my studio. I know a lot of artists that have reached out, but I wanted to save those artists for my last Method Man album. I wanted this one to be a platform for more Staten Island artists to be heard that aren’t getting heard, because you know if it isn’t Wu Tang–I mean, we never blocked anyone from trying to get a record deal. I mean the way the record industry works is, if something’s not broke, don’t fix it. Bottom line is there’s a lot more talent to be heard from Staten Island outside of Wu Tang artists, and these kids are dope. I wanted to just give them a platform to be heard. I’m on every song, but I’m not exactly on any songs by myself, with the exception of one.” (Nerdist)

Last fall, MM said an inability to secure Wu leader RZA had hurt Crystal Meth’s progression.

“Can’t get RZA on board for some reason. I’m trying ya’ll. I’ve been speaking to him for the past three, four years. I’ma give it to you raw, I been saying, ‘F*ck with me. F*ck with me RZA.’ Telling other people, ‘Tell RZA to f*ck with me.’ F*ck with me RZA. But he’s a busy man. And I’m proud of him. Oh my God, he took it way further than I could have ever dream of. He’s like a f*cking inspiration, real talk. Real sh*t. He should just get back in the studio with me one more time, that’s all. Just one more time.” (HHDX)

Back in 2012, Meth said touring alongside RZA helped strengthen their bond and landed him a spot on the LP.

“Me and RZA are gonna work together on my next LP, Crystal Meth,” Mef said in an interview. “I’m looking forward to getting back in the studio with the kid. We just came off the Wu tour and the camaraderie was still there so I know the chemistry is gonna be there when we go in the studio — honeslty, I’ve got so much time on my hands right now, who knows [when it will drop.] But I’m definitely working if there’s listeners out there. I know there’s listeners out there. Far as mainstream goes, I’m not concerned too tough with that. I’ve been there, done that. So, year, if there’s still fans out there listening, I’m definitely coming with some sh*t for you.” (AHH)
