Music mogul Jay Z‘s TIDAL streaming service is reportedly taking an early hit as its competition, Spotify and Pandora, have appeared to flourish since its launch last month.

According to reports, TIDAL’s main music streaming rivals have reached new peaks since it was introduced.

On April 20th, Pandora and Spotify occupied positions No. 3 and No. 4 on the U.S. iPhone revenue chart, respectively. This was the first time two music streaming services have hit the top 4 in sales simultaneously. As a matter of fact, something curious can be seen in Spotify’s download performance right after Tidal media campaign started bashing its allegedly meager payouts. Spotify surged back into the iPad top 40 download chart on March 31st, right when Tidal’s anti-Spotify invective hit its peak in American media. This had not happened since November 2014. (BRG)

Reports suggest TIDAL’s attempt to bash its competition may have sparked the surges.

It looks like Tidal’s attacks on Spotify and Pandora actually managed to increase public awareness of the services, boosting Spotify’s download performance in particular at the end of March. And now, a few weeks later, the combined revenue performance of the two music apps is hitting a new milestone. To add insult to injury, Beats Music has started cracking U.S. iPhone top 20 revenue chart. (BRG)

Last week, TIDAL CEO Andy Chen decided to pack his bags and resign.

Reports of departures at Tidal began yesterday on Swedish news site Breakit. It claimed that around 25 employees were given notice by the company and “forced to leave.” Now, Tidal has confirmed that CEO Andy Chen is leaving the company, and will be replaced by its former CEO, Peter Tonstad. However, a Tidal representative dismissed reports that 25 staff were leaving the company as “incorrect,” instead categorising the departures as “redundancies” and “streamlining.” (Business Insider)

TIDAL also issued a statement on Chen’s unexpected exit.

“TIDAL’s new interum [sic] CEO is Peter Tonstad – a former CEO of parent company Aspiro Group. He has a better understanding of the industry and a clear vision for how the company is looking to change the status quo. He’s streamlining resources to ensure talent is maximized to enhance the customer experience. We’ve eliminated a handful of positions and refocused our company-wide talent to address departments that need support and cut redundancies. TIDAL’s offices globally will remain and grow: we are already hirinig for several new positions now. We’re excited about our future and what’s in-store for fans who want the best listening experience.” (Statement)

  1. Here are a few facts the writer should have considered before writing this article:

    1) Tidal is a couple of months old and, even by Jay Z’s recognizance, not an anti-Spotify company. During some interview, he even mentioned that if Tidal influences other streaming services to establish a better payout then it would have succeeded in it’s mission.

    2) Tidal is a couple of MONTHS old. It makes no sense to compare it’s success to the giants who have already been here for years.
