Maybach Music Group’s Meek Mill took 4:44 notes. The hip-hop star recently talked about picking up the gems JAY-Z dropped on his latest solo offering.
In a new interview, Meek Milly explained the positive impact JAY’s LP had on him.
“It means growth to me. He definitely motivated me. I learned from the CD. I like to learn from stuff. [Money to the ear?] I don’t think it was too much. Do what you do. Our jeans are tighter than JAY-Z’s. We wear off-white, Hov rocking Tom Ford. It’s just two different things – he’s kicking real reality rap. … He’s just teaching people the game. You running around with $100,000 in your pocket? For what? You got the money to your ear, for what? I like it because it’s a good picture for me. You talking to Benjamin. I remember Benjamin would never answer my calls. I can pick up and holler at him whenever I want to.” (The Beat ATL)
Recently, rap trio The LOX weighed-in on JAY’s latest solo offering and named their fave songs.
A few days ago, rap veteran Lupe Fiasco penned an extensive 4:44 review.
Despite some stiff competition last week, JAY’s 4:44 easily dominated the music sales chart.
Following a one-week Tidal exclusive, Jay-Z’s 4:44 became available to purchase, as well as stream at most major DSPs—with the exception of Spotify, whose free tier took them out of the game. That said, the Roc Nation set has gone #1 on HITS’ Sales Plus Streaming (SPS) Chart, moving 278k units this week.
