R&B singer Mary J. Blige can reportedly focus on other things than Uncle Sam these days after paying over $900,000 in debt over taxes. #NoDramaSetter
According to reports, Blige is now in the clear after settling her money woes with the state of New Jersey.
Mary J. Blige just pulled an Olivia Pope … handling a huge chunk of her massive debt by erasing more than $900K worth of state taxes. TMZ broke the story … Blige was hit with a tax lien last February in New Jersey. Court records had her on the hook for $901,769.65 … but new docs, obtained by TMZ, show the whole matter’s been squared away. That might feel great for Mary — if not for the fact she still owes the Feds another $3.4 million for back income taxes. (TMZ)
Last year, the Grammy-winning singer credited fellow crooner Rihanna for keeping their genre thriving.
“Maybe in 2012, in the middle, I was like, “What is going on? What is this?” Things got worse before they got better. I think things are going in the right direction. I am so proud of what Rihanna is doing. … Yes. She is speaking to her generation, and she’s living her life in front of them. I don’t even think she’s purposely doing it. She’s such a beautiful girl, and I don’t think she knows she’s that beautiful. She’s just living her life, and leading her generation, and she has great, great songs. Her career is amazing; and her team, obviously, is amazing.” (VIBE)
She also spoke on media pounding the 24 year-old for recently hooking back up with ex-boyfriend Chris Brown.
“They give her a hard time because she’s living her life. As long as she’s having fun and isn’t three minutes away from wanting to shoot herself, good! I want her to be happy. That’s impressive to me. And I love her songs. Adele also gives me hope. God bless Amy Winehouse. She was just the perfect thing.” (VIBE)
