Hollywood duo Martin Lawrence and Will Smith‘s highly-anticipated Bad Boys 3 might come out later than everyone thinks. New reports claim the now-mythical film has lost its director.

According to reports, the film is currently in search for a filmmaker to get the wheels rolling again.

Joe Carnahan has vacated the directing gig for Sony’s third “Bad Boys” action-comedy due to scheduling conflicts. Sony had no comment on the exit. The studio has three possible director candidates for the Will Smith-Martin Lawrence comedy, which was titled “Bad Boys for Life” in August and pushed back to a Nov. 8, 2018 release date. Carnahan had written the most recent draft of the script. (Variety)

Last August, buzz developed about Bad Boys 3 suffering a premiere setback.

Sony is still nailing down a production start date, hence it would never be ready by next summer for its June 2 date. No problem for the Culver City studio as the four-day Martin Luther King Jr. weekend of January 12, 2018, will do just fine. In its new spot, Bad Boys for Life will go up against 20th Century Fox’s Maze Runner: The Death Cure and Paramount animated feature Sherlock Gnomes. (Deadline)

In spring 2016, Hollywood producer Jerry Bruckheimer inked a new deal for a Bad Boys movie.

Will Smith and Jerry Bruckheimer have agreed to make “Bad Boys 3” … TMZ has learned. Sources connected with both Bruckheimer and Smith tell TMZ, the 2 have talked for hours in the last 2 days — 4 hours at dinner Tuesday night and a long lunch on Wednesday — to hash out the terms of the contract. They also spent time working on the script. (TMZ)

Months prior, Will Smith dished on his interest on the long-awaited Bad Boys 2 follow-up.

“You know what? I saw Martin a few days ago, a few weeks ago and I hadn’t seen him for about two years. We just looked at each other and we hugged and in that moment, we both knew we were making another Bad Boys. [laughs] So yeah, we’re definitely doing another one.” (BBC Radio 1Xtra)
