Former Cash Money Records artist /producer Mannie Fresh recently addressed producer Bangladesh's accusations that he wasn't compensated for his work with the camp.
Mannie said Bang is just one of many producers that was not paid for production on Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter III album.
“Well, I wouldn’t want that for nobody,” Fresh said in an interview. “It’s a slimy business is all I can say. It’s not just him — they got four or five lawsuits from Lil Wayne’s last album. On my way leaving out I said everybody can’t be wrong but I don’t wish that for nobody. I been in that place before and I know why Bangladesh feels that way. His life depends on it so it’s like if you sold all these units then give me my money…Now, when something serious comes up and you think they got your money but they don’t — that’s an eye opener for you. It was a learning lesson more than anything. Homeboy’s business is never good. It’s like having a friend and thinking you can trust them to do something. You should entrust your money the right way. Money makes everybody evil when you think about it.” (XXL Mag)
Earlier this month, Bang accused Baby of controlling Lil Wayne’s decisions.
“This is why Manny Fresh don’t f*ck with [Cash Money] because he never got any royalty money,” he said in an interview. “That’s why Baby can go around flaunting this cash, because that’s everyone else’s money… It’s not even Wayne’s fault. Wayne is not getting money. He is given money, he’s not getting money. If Baby gets a million dollars he’ll buy Wayne a Phantom, but that’s in Cash Money’s name. That 14-bedroom mansion isn’t Wayne sh*t. That’s why he have his own company, because he was trying to leave Cash Money and the only thing that would keep him there was [if they] gave him his own thing. But Baby still controls that. All those Young Money artists don’t even know that they not getting royalty money.” (VIBE)
“Lollipop” producer Jim Jonsin has also filed a lawsuit against Wayne over unpaid work.
The producer of Lil Wayne’s hit “Lollipop” is suing the rapper for $500,000 over the track. Weezy is currently serving a prison sentence for gun possession but that still hasn’t stopped him getting into trouble. Jim Jonsin claims he hasn’t earned any money from the smash single – which was released back in 2008 and went to number one in the US. Jonsin produced Lollipop and is credited as a co-writer. Speaking with DJ Bay Bay last year Carter III producers Play-N-Skills said they didn’t blame Wayne for delayed payments.
“First off, shout-out to Wayne and everybody because it’s really kinda a misunderstanding,” they explained. “There is no lawsuit as we speak, we working everything out. But the whole thing is we had not been compensated for it right now, we haven’t been paid but sometimes it takes time for paperwork to be done…The musicbusiness right now just don’t like to pay nobody…The Carter III has received lawsuits, prior to us there was another sample issue, there was another producer that jumped up and it’s kinda not fair to Wayne at the same time. And I’m not saying trying to take his side because homie’s doing his thing. I’m sure Wayne and them got their money up front but I ain’t got mine. It’s close to four million records, it’s one of the biggest selling albums in a long time. I just wanna get a little bit.” (K104)
