The Made In America Festival has been buzzing since 2012, when JAY-Z first went on stage with Pearl Jam to perform “99 Problems”. The city of Philadelphia has hosted it annually, and it has brought in thousands upon thousands of music fans from every corner of the world.
Recently however, Mayor Jim Kenney announced the festival will be not returning to the city after this year. Considering the controversial decision, here’s 5 Things You (Probably) Didn’t Know About the Made In America festival.
1. JAY-Z Isn’t Happy W/ The Mayor’s Decision
The rapper has since published a letter in the city’s newspaper The Inquirer addressing the matter. Read an excerpt below:
“We are disappointed that the Mayor of the City of Philadelphia would evict us from the heart of the city, through a media outlet, without a sit-down meeting, notice, dialogue or proper communication. It signifies zero appreciation for what Made In America has built alongside the phenomenal citizens of this city”.
